Sing Me A Song!

We all know babies love a good lullaby! Share your best suggestion for a soothing song - you know- one you can remember the words too at 3am!!

Andrea looking so cute for bed! The perfect time for the perfect lullaby!

Jellybean, not to worry, your daddy is obviously musically inclined! He'll be able to sing you right back to sweet slumber!

There is a secret track on one of Nicole Mullens CDs that is a lullabye. I've sung that to Jeremy so many nights... he calls it the Jeremy song. But only Mommy can sing it! Not Daddy!

Well, I wish I could sing this one to you because my friend wrote it for a children's book. Gimme a call and we'll have a singing lesson. Words:
"Like snow white sailing ships on a deep blue sea, high in the heaven the clouds floating free, if I might fly to one, if I might glide to one, sailing and sailing, what pleasure t'would be."

One that soothed both of my kids was from the movie "Beaches".
"Baby mine, don't you cry, Baby mine dry your eyes. Rest your head close to my heart, never to part, baby of mine."

Apparently I didn't like to be sung to (my mom says I always pointed to my crib when she tried to rock and sing to me... go figure) But we love music and hope little Isaac does too.

As for what you can sing to JB...not sure actually... but a few old hymn type songs played on a guitar oughta do the trick.

I'm not good at remembering words to songs at all...and I know you two aren't like that at all! But after being sleep deprived I could only think of "I Love You L**D" and so even at 14 months that is the song we sing when we put Keely to bed at night. Keely's first week,

Jacob also made up lots of words to different tunes. Even at 3am the one that made me laugh the hardest was to the tune of "Good King Wenceslas" complete with High Step Marching! The one that stuck though was to the tune of "Where Is Thumbkin" and we would sing Little Keely... But I have found lately she won't let me sing it if she is upset, maybe because she knows it'll calm her down and she refuses? I don't know!

Good thing you have friends who know real lullabyes but made up ones work too!!

Dear Adam and Andrea:

Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
Comin' fo to carry me home
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
Comin' fo to carry me home

Well I looked over Jordan to
see what I could see
Comin' fo to carry me home
10,000 angels comin' after me
Comin' fo to carry me home

This was a song my grandfather used to sing to me when I was little. I sing it to our little Amanda

Love and Blessings,

Eddie Landry

PS. The old 1940s song "PS. I Love You" redone by Diana Krall is a good one too!

So that J.B. knows his/her roots, I say to sing "Rocky Top" in the morning and at night to sing "Because He Lives".

We really like the script. memory songs, especially by Steve Green.

Also, I really like songs with lots of verses, such as a hymn. I often set an amount of songs I was going sing as an incentive or game in my mind and told myself that surely the baby would be asleep by the time I sang 3 of these longs ones or whatever. (of course, I re-set the goal over and over) But, it helped me to not get so worked up whenever it took me a long time to settle them down.

Also, we have really enjoyed hearing our girls sing back the special songs that we picked out for each of them and then sang to them over and over and over, so I think that really putting an effort into making it something you would like to be deep in their hearts is worth it.

Brad wrote this one and I love it. Sorry I can't send you the music.

Good night, little baby, good night
Good night, little baby, good night

Rest your head, close your eyes,
have no fear, you're held so tight,
in his love, your God above,
You're His delight.

Good night, little baby, good night
Good night, little baby, good night

My prayer for you, O precious one,
is that you'll know God's precious son,
who loves you so, more than you know,
Sweet child good night.

All of our kids have enjoyed this song my mom used to sing to me-
J.C., J., J. in the morning, J. in the noon time, J., J., J. the whole day long- then replace His name with love Him, then serve Him, then praise Him
Eden especially loves All in All- it eases her tears and helps her rest almost instantly-
I've also added so many verses to J. loves you, sung in a very slow and lullaby tone that I couldn't even write them all!
Singing to your little one will bring out all kids of creative genes you never knew you had!! :-)

Ok this isn't a lullaby but I would change the words to that MercyMe chorus "If I Could Just Sit With You"

If I could just sit with You a while, I need You to hold me
Moment by moment, 'till forever passes by

I changed it so that I was holding her and almost every time it would bring me to tears reminding me how few these moments really are. Man I feel like I cried a lot those first few months. Oh it was worth it. Precious memories. They grow up so fast *tear*
